Traditional Bagobo textile "Inabal"

Inabal is a traditional abaca textile with a particular weaving, usually in kinatkat or ine patterns, with a central panel worn only by women. These ikat-style textiles, which were dyed with vegetable and natural dyes, were traditionally worn by ancestral royalty.

The symmetry and dominance of a schematic image of a crocodile may be seen in the frieze pattern. Back-strap looms are used by Bagobos to weave abaca fibers with ikat or tie-dyed resist designs to form abstracted crocodile creatures. The finished abaca fibers are polished with smooth shell and beeswax to give them a gloss.
